As a group of veterinary healers, we are also experiencing a massive crisis. We are divided by corporate interests of maximizing metrics and profit and loss statements for the benefit of investors and private equity groups.
At the same time, we have lost true veterinary leadership in the preservation of the art of healing upon which our profession was founded by the likes of James Herriot and all who have followed.
This is the guiding light of what we have done for decades. We have lost control of the cockpit and are relegated to economy passengers on a corporate jet.
Our Veterinary Vision
Dr. Nations’ path has led him on a mission to “put a dent in cancer for both people and pets” and he integrates functional medicine and a metabolic therapeutic approach for both disease and wellness. His journey and collaboration with many human healers has given him a broad exposure to experts in integrative oncology, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, ketogenic diets through KetoPet Sanctuary, herbal compounds, metabolic drugs, IV infusions, mistletoe therapy and nutrition. Dr. Nations’ passion and vision to develop a Metabolic Health Institute for animals is within our new 20,000 sq. ft. Referral Specialty and Emergency Center expansion due to open in spring 2023.

With the veterinary industry becoming more corporate, we’re determined to bend the arc of veterinary medicine and bring it back to what it’s meat to be– a universal experience that strenghtens the bonds between pets and people. We offer State of the Art facilities and a great team atmosphere, and we are close to America’s best beaches, Disney, Tampa, and Orlando! Winter Haven was recently named, Central Florida’s “Coolest” Small City, and we couldn’t agree more!

Loren Nations DVM, DABVP
Loren Nations DVM, DABVP, is the founder and CEO of Veterinary Healthcare Associates and AscendVets, a combined group of six small animal veterinary practices encompassing all aspects of companion animal wellness, 24/7 emergency and critical care and referral specialty practice in central Florida. After completing his degree in Microbiology and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida and a medical and surgical internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York, he has been in clinical practice where he now specializes in Internal Medicine, Oncology and Cardiology.
